...looking forward to living? not "to live"

Hello,

I read a book and there a two sentences in which I don't understand the grammar.


"He was looking forward to living in the countryside."
-> I thought there must be the infinitive "live" after the preposition "to".


"I want to know just what is happening here."
-> I would say "I just want to know..." or is it a special emphasis?

Can somebody explain it to me, please?

1. No we use the gerund there.
"I'm looking forward to sleeping; meeting you; writing to you; watching the game..."

2. Yes,it is for emphasis.

"I want to know just what is happening here" means

"I want to know exactly what is happening here."

"I just want to know what is happening here" means

"I only/simply/merely want to know what is happening here".
