Which of the three below-mentioned variants is acceptable to you:

I work to support myself (financially).

I work to provide for myself.

I work for my upkeep.

The meaning that I wanted to express is: I don't need to rely on others to obtain a source of upkeep for me.

The first two are OK. The third is grammatically correct but you won't hear "upkeep" used much these days.
