school any more. Agree or disagree?

It is said that in the era of the new technologies such as Internet and mobile communication it is not necessary for children to visit school any longer. I disagree with that for the following reasons.

First of all, modern technologies cannot replace the social activities at school and their role in forming children’s values. Schools are not only places for acquiring new information; they are also a place where young boys and girls interact. For example, virtual communication via Internet chat rooms and social networks does not affect children’s communication skills positively, while ‘chatting’ with friends in the schoolyard helps pupils to socialize. What is more, children’s emotional experience is enriched by going to school. They learn the meaning of terms like friendship, mutual support and teamwork. All of these basic social skills are developed at school and cannot be substituted by Internet, distant mobile communication and any other sort of modern technology. That is why going to school is needed and not unnecessary even in modern days.

Secondly, school has another crucial function that cannot be neglected – it is the place where young students’ academic progress is checked and evaluated and where they can receive good advice. This job cannot be done properly by modern technology inventions such as Internet and mobile communications despite the fact that many online programs promise to turn learning at home to ‘easy and fast process.’ For example, there are qualified teachers at school who can give advice to students for their learning skills and support them morally. Teachers can also help pupils to develop their skills and help them in finding their talents while Internet and mobile communication cannot do these things for learners. For these reasons, school education is still needed and both children and parents should be aware that going to school is superior to Internet and mobile communication technologies.

To summarise, the opinion that going to school for children is not needed any more because of Internet and mobile communication is widespread these days. Despite this, I disagree that young boys and girls do not need to go to school because schools can help children to socialize and become well prepared adults not only in academic, but also in personal aspect.

Some think children no longer need classroom instruction?
