What's an exciting way to teach phrases and clauses to a Year-12 student?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you talking about the syntactic difference between a phrase and a clause, or about commonly used phrases?

I have never gotten excited about either phrases or clauses. However, I am willing to entertain the idea.
