where do we put stress in compounds like 400-metre distance or 2-hour break?

I think they're equally stressed.

Four hundred meter distance.
Two hour break.

The stress would be on those parts in bold.
I hope you'll understand what I mean.
(I've chosen not to use hyphens to make my point clear.)
