I'm confusing using the words to judge someone's result.
For example, the highest mark is 10
10: excellent 8-9: well done is that right?
So what about others?

Any grading scale is subjective. It can be defined anyway you want just be consistent in application. In the US it is common to use the following scales.
Letter Points Meaning
A 9-10 Excellent
B 8-9 Very Good
C 7-8 Average
D 6-7 Below Average
F 0-6 Failing
