Buttons.

Re: A badge ???

I was looking at the three pictures at the bottom. Those are brooches.

Re: A badge ???

In British English, we call them badges. In American English, they're buttons.

Re: A badge ???

You'll also hear them called 'pins' in AmE. That's the term I use for them.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia offers several other alternative names.

Re: A badge ???

The woman's head in white is a cameo, carved from a naturally-ocurring mineral. That one happens to be hung on a chain, not pinned to a garment. Next to it is a cloisonnee pendant also on a chain. The last two pins or brooches probably come from Georg Jensen of Denmark. There is a name for their process of coating leaves or flowers in precious metals, but I can't recall it just now.

Am I looking at the wrong picture? I thought we were talking about the thing which says 'Modern Talking'. Is that what you're asking about, Johnyxxx?

If that's the case, it looks like a badge to me. That's what we called them when I was a teenager and was in the habit of buying them if they featured my favourite musicians.

Re: A badge ???

I'm pretty sure Johnny was asking about the picture at the top. The thumbnails at the bottom are pictures of other items the site thinks might be of interest to a shopper.

Re: A badge ???

Yes. I am talking about "Modern Talking".

Hello.

[STRIKE]I would like to ask[/STRIKE] What are these little things people [STRIKE]used to[/STRIKE] pin to their garments [STRIKE]in past are[/STRIKE] called in English?

In the past we called them buttons. Today we still call them buttons.

Thank you very much.
You're welcome.
