[Grammar] 'a day off from school' or 'a day off school'?

-Snow days, storm days, hurricane days, broken air conditioner days – whether it’s from bad weather or a problem with the school building, almost every school year has at least a couple of unexpected days off school.​

Would you please tell me which way we usually say, 'a day off from school' or 'a day off school'? Do we also say 'a day off work'?

"a day off school" is fine

You can also say "a day off work". Adding from doesn't do anything except add another word.

But in your example, the final school is redundant.

...every school year has at least a couple of unexpected days off = it's understood that the days are off school since we're talking about a school year.

In AmE, we traditionally say "a day off from school". Likewise, when referring to taking time off of a job, we'd still include a preposition, whether it be "I had a/the day off from work" or (less gramatically correct, but still often used) "I had a/the day off of work."
