What is the meaning of leap in this title? I think that it means ''enter'', but I could not find a definition suiting it. "How fire adapted to life" is also okay for me.

You could replace "leapt" with came suddenly and get a similar meaning, but you'd lose the effective image of jumping flames.

"Entered" loses the urgency of "leapt" but it conveys the transition into existence.

"Adapted" doesn't work at all. Fire didn't change its behavior to accommodate something.
