''A spark, a flint: How fire leapt to life''
What is the meaning of leap in this title? I think that it means ''enter'', but I could not find a definition suiting it. "How fire adapted to life" is also okay for me.
The text is from Cambridge Practice Tests for IELTS.

Here is the caption:
"The control of fire was the first and perhaps greatest of humanity's steps towards a life-enhancing technology"
