Have I used "intrinsic" correctly and naturally here? Is this okay?

We should try to preserve animal species and save them from extinction not just because they are important to the balance of natural ecosystems, but also because animals have intrinsic value and are precious in their own right. They make the world a more beautiful place.

You might add something like the following. (See below.)

It's hard to put a value on animal species, but we would be poorer without tigers, elephants and rhinos.

I would put a comma after "extinction".

Living animals are conserved (protected) whereas dead animals are preserved in museums, right?
