Are those sentences correct? Are they written English or old-fashioned?

1.(Given the fact that) a prospective student is bombarded by prospectuses, selecting a suitable course is not easy.
2.(Given) his age, he's a remarkably fast runner.
3.(Not that) I don't like the film,(but that) I have no time for it.
4.I’m in a slightly awkward position (in that) he’s not arriving until the 10th.

Thanks!

Sentences 1 and 2 are correct.

Sentence 2 would sound more colloquial if you said "he's a remarkably fast runner for his age," although there's nothing wrong with "given."

Sentence 3 is slightly incorrect if you want to use the words in both sets of parentheses, in which case it should be "It's not that I don't like the film, but that I don't have time." If you kept the beginning the same, you're more likely to hear "not that I don't like the film, I just don't have time for it."

Sentence 4 is correct. It would sound more colloquial if you replaced 'in that' with 'because,' but again there's nothing wrong with saying it like you have it.

I agree with freetoy, but I would add that the words "the fact" are not needed in sentence 1.
