Dear all,

A while ago I posted a question regarding the use of possessive "'s". I really appreciate all the replies. They really helped me a lot.

Here's the thread.

https://www.usingenglish.com/forum/ask-teacher/124265-fan-john-lennon-fan-john-lennons.html

There's one more thing I'd like to ask about this. In the case of below, which word would you choose?

The Rolling Stones is a rock band from Britain. I'm a bifg fan of [them/ theirs].

What I learned from the replies in the thread above is that when a pronoun comes after "of", it has to be a possesive case such as " a fan of his" or "a fan of hers". So, I think "theirs" is the word here. However, when I googled "a fan of them" and "a fan of theirs" I found more number of the former than the latter. Am I missing something important?
