What's the difference in meaning between the two sentences?

1) Are you being serious?
2) Are you serious?

Not much difference.

Thank you, could you give me a similar example with a different adjective in which there is a difference in meaning between the tense forms?

1) Are you being truthful? (at this moment or about this specific situation)
2) Are you truthful? (in general, is this one of your traits?)
