What do you call the thing that opens and closes the vent?

How about the thing that points it left or right?

Yikes! Hard question! I call them the thing that opens and closes the vent and the thing that points it left and right!

For the vent opener, how about knob or wheel?

For the pointer, how about slider or lever?

I'll look at my car manual later. Meanwhile, it will be great to find out what other people call them.

I often help a friend who is a mechanic and has to order spare parts from foreign dealers.

I think the vertical gadget is called "rotary switch".

The other one (in the middle of the air grill) is called "air vent adjuster".

I hope that helps.

I don't think anyone in the world other than a car maker or mechanic would call them that.

I can honestly say I don't think I've ever had an occasion to refer to either of these things. I rarely use them, because once I get them set I never move them. Since I'm the one who has to adjust them to my preference, I guess I've never had the need to refer to them - I just reach over and adjust them without speaking about it.

I've probably used the phrase 'adjust the vents', but even then don't think I've ever needed to refer to the parts.

I had had to use a term, I guess I'd call the one in the middle a knob and the thing on the right a wheel or switch.

Again, I've opened and closed vents with it, but don't think I've every actually specifically mentioned the item.

I just say 'Direct the air towards me, please' or 'Shall I turn off/close this vent?'
