Catch up with something

May I mean "catch up with something" = "to enter into something" in the following sentence.

"In a billiards game a ball is destined to catch up with the pocket."

I would say no! Catch up has various meanings, but "to enter" isn't one of them.

In billiards, the ball will (hopefully) drop into/fall into/enter the pocket.
