Conditionals — "If that happened to me when I WAS 37, I would go crazy".

I had discussion with my colleague who told me that her boyfriend had had shipwreck in love, when he was 37.

So I responded:

"If that happened to me when I WAS 37, I would go crazy".

But given the fact that I am 33, was my sentence correct? Or should I have said:

"If that happened to me when I AM 37, I would go crazy".

Why did you change my title? Because it seems now that I was interested in this phrase "shipwreck in love" (however that might not be grammaticaly correct idiom, altough I found out later that correct phrase is "shipwreck love", but I am sure you grasped the point), and not in conditional sentence.

This is silly now....I named my thread after its content, not after the silly part of my postings. OK, thank you for moderation, please be so kind to delete the thread now, because I dont know how to do it.

While that is natural and common, it's incorrect here. Say "Now, that's much better!"

For Example,

Dentist: That tooth's had it! I can extract it now, or we can do it next week.
Patient: Now is much better.

Patient: Now, is much better. :cross:
Patient: Now, that's much better!
