Hello ,

Can anyone tell me which one of the following is grammatically correct :

1. They could wrote wrong answers but they chose to write slang & abuses.

2. They could have written wrong answers but they chose to write slang & abuses.

I found it over the internet. I think both can be used but I am not sure that'swhy asking.

I found it [STRIKE]over[/STRIKE] on the internet. I think both can be used but I am not sure. That's why I'm asking.

The simple past isn't used after a modal.
