Could you say to me whether we put the exclamation and interrogative marks before or after parentheses?
I have read some rules on them, and there were only examples with full stops, which went after the parentheses if the parenthesis statement was not a complete sentence and before the parentheses if it was a complete sentence.
Which are correct?
a.a. Did the dog eat the cat food? (or maybe the hamster?)
a.b. Did the dog eat the cat food (or maybe the hamster?)?
a.b. You have made a mistake again! (or even an error)
b.b. You have made a mistake again (or an error)!
c.a. Was the meat eaten by the dog? (Or maybe some aliens came and ate it all because they were hungry?)
c.b. Was the meat eaten by the dog (Or maybe some aliens came and ate it all because they were hungry?)?
