I have checked through the old threads but still get questions about the differences and usages of floor, story, storied, storey.

May I try :

  1. The building has 20 floors.
  2. The building has 20 stories.
  3. The building has 20 storey.
  4. It is a 10-storied building.
  5. It is a 10-storey building.

Is the word storeied existed?

Thank you.

I have checked through the old threads but still get questions about the differences and usages of floor, story, storied, storey. Do people ask you about these words or do you have questions about these words?

May I try :

  1. The building has 20 floors. OK
  2. The building has 20 stories. OK
  3. The building has 20 storey. It is a 20 story (storey in BRe) building.
  4. It is a 10-storied building. No - storied refers to someone or something famous or infamous. He has a much storied past.
  5. It is a 10-storey building.

[STRIKE]Is [/STRIKE] Does the word storeied [STRIKE]existed[/STRIKE] exist? No.

Thank you.
The usage largely depends on location and training. A home may have two stories while a building would have two floors. You are safe by using stories for houses and floors for commercial buildings.

Dear Gillnetter,
I have been reading the old threads randomly and found this interesting topic. So I shared this question in the forum again.
