Someone says something irritates someone else, and this one hooks a thumb in the first one direction.

Is hooked a thumb here this very unpleasant sign made with the central finger of a hand while the others are closed forming a fit? Or, on the contrary, is it a sign with the thumb meaning OK, Great, or the like?

"hooking the thumb" is a gesture that could mean:

look at this guy; he is (crazy, doesn't know what he is talking about, a real fool, a wise man, isn't he cute, what is he saying?? etc. etc.)

"giving the finger" is a rude gesture meant to insult another person.
