Hi there,
I am a 3rd year student studying a BA Education course. I am currently collecting data for my dissertation which focuses on how secondary school teachers integrate technology to support their EAL. I would like to find out what the benefits and challenges.

Technology integration for EAL students is a genuinely rich dissertation topic. Tools like translation apps, text-to-speech software, and collaborative platforms like Google Docs have opened real opportunities for EAL learners to participate more fully in lessons. The main challenges teachers report are uneven device access, over-reliance on machine translation, and the time needed to differentiate digital tasks effectively. Keep it simple! My electronic toys are restricted to:
A computer and projector
A speaker and microphones for public speaking work, presentations, and listening comprehension practice/tests.

There is nothing for translation, no silly language lab recording devices, and definitely no interactive whiteboard that's as expensive as it is useless.
My particular interest is the spoken word, but I can see how those who teach the written word might like Google Docs or whatever. However, I would suggest a pen and paper are better technology for the work most teachers set for their students.
Using excessive electronic rubbish is, in my most humble of opinions, a backwards step for education. Digital classrooms are on the way out in many countries, and I see that as a very good thing.
