How do British Australian and North American teachers tell their pupils to line up according to how tall they are?

Now line up shortest to tallest, please.
Now line up (from) shorter to taller, please.
Now line up by height, please.

or anything else?

Do you mean 'line up in ascending height order'?

Not a teacher.

Thanks a lot, Mathew. I'd like to know how they give the instructions for a line-up, in ascending height order being merely an instance.

"Line up by height" conveys the meaning simply.

Although it doesn't make sense to me now, I remember being told to line up in "size places."

I'm picturing an amusing scenario here unless you tell them at which end you want the tallest/shortest to stand.

And then there's the football coach who supposedly said "Pair up in groups of three and line up in a circle."
