Is it correct to say "Do you lay in the sun?"
Could it be a typo?

It's incorrect. It should be 'Do you lie in the sun?'

A lot of native English-speakers make this mistake.

It's not a typo. Fewer and fewer people make the distinction.

It's not a typo inasmuch as it is almost certainly the word the author meant to write. It is, however, the wrong word.
