1. He was poor at his young age, and had to leave school to get a job.
2. He was poor at his young age, and had to quit school to get a job.

Are the above sentences correct? I think the second one is more natural, isn't it?

I think the second part of both sentences are okay, and they mean the same thing.
I would change the first part to:

He was poor when young...

"He was poor at his young age" is ungrammatical.

I'd probably say "When he was [age], his family was so poor [that] he had to drop out of school and get a job."
We don't usually refer to children of school age as being independently poor - they come from a poor family.
