Below is a fragment from the paper entitled "New Technologies Could Spark Global Uprisings" in the National Interest Journal.
I'm reading this article to further improve my knowledge of Englishg, expand my vocabulary and later share my experience with students.
The sentences I'm wondering about are found below:
"Technology is changing (virtually) everything. The traditional constraints of human labor are no longer a limiting factor in the global market. Corporations and governments are the benefactors of cost-cutting and labor-reducing innovations".
I suppose "labor-reducing" when speaking about innovations means that the suggested innovations require less labor that working without them. The innovations reduce labor costs and make people work less (people maybe frustrated or dissatisfied). "Cost-cutting" means that these innovations cut costs for something, right? I'm not sure about cost-cutting. Looking forward to your comments.
New Technologies Could Spark Global Uprisings
When the divide between the (relatively few) “haves” and the (relatively many) “have nots” is in a perpetual state of growth, a breaking point is inevitably reached.
