Hi, I’m Tom. My wife is Japanese and currently learning English. One thing I’ve noticed is that most language schools focus heavily on grammar and vocabulary, but give very little practical guidance on pronunciation and intonation. That kind of training usually requires one-on-one coaching, which is expensive and not easily scalable.
I’m a software engineer, so I’ve been exploring whether this gap can be addressed with a focused AI solution.
The idea is a pronunciation-focused app where AI acts as a personal coach. Instead of generic lessons, it would analyze your speech, identify your specific pronunciation issues, and give targeted feedback. The coaching would happen in your native language, and the system would guide you through structured practice (words, phrases, sentences), with immediate comparison to a reference voice.
The goal is not to teach vocabulary or grammar, but to improve how you sound—clarity, rhythm, stress, and intonation—through repeated, guided practice.
I’m interested in feedback from people who have tried existing apps or struggled with pronunciation training:
What features would actually be useful to you?
What do current apps get wrong or miss entirely?
What would make you stick with a tool like this long-term?
Any concrete suggestions or criticism would be useful.
