Hello! For me number 3 is correct, because you are reffering to 2 people, that is why "smiling faces" is the best option.
However, if you want to emphasize the smile on their faces, then the second variant might work.
Not a teacher.
 
The second one. You are saying they have the same face.
 
I'd use the second too.
