Hi, in a test a came across a sentence where I was supposed to choose from the words give, score, make or do a goal. I guessed score a goal, but I am not really sure.
Thanx for helping.
Michaela

Which one would you choose?

Were you given a context? Was this a "goal" in sport (football/soccer/hockey/netball etc) or a "goal" in business or your personal life?

The sentence was as follows:
The cameras showed that Maradona had ___ the goal with his hand!

Ah, so the context is sport. Have you looked up "to give a goal", "to score a goal", "to make a goal" and "to do a goal" on Google or an online dictionary?

Why did you choose "score a goal"?

Well, I chose score because I just felt the words matched somehow. I googled it a bit I found that score should be possible. I think that I am influenced by my mother tongue since we say give a goal and score points. This just makes me feel unsure.

You were right. In English, in sport, we "score a goal".
