Are the following sentences acceptable? Waht is the difference between the two sentences?

1. We were surprised to see that wearing vest and shorts to cool off is prevalent among most teenagers in Kaohsiung, so we followed what they did.
2. Wearing vest and shorts to cool off is prevalent amond most teenagers in Kaohsiung, and so did we.

Sentence 2 is incorrect. It lacks "coherence". In 'so did we' did must refer to a previously mentioned verb, which is not the case.

2. Wearing vest and shorts to cool off is prevalent amond most teenagers in Kaohsiung, and so did we.

Sentence 2 would work if it said : "Most teenagers in Kaohsiung wore a vest and shorts to cool off and so did we".
