Is this okay?

Studying history helps us put things into perspective and understand the context of our world. It also helps us appreciate the freedoms we have today, which were hard-won by people who came before us. A mere two centuries ago, our ancestors lived in brutal conditions without access to basic necessities like healthcare and technology. By studying history, we can learn from the past and work to create a better future for ourselves and future generations.

Of course, some things that are considered basic necessities today didn't exist in the past.

Of course there was healthcare and technology two hundred years ago. You have to specify what forms of healthcare and technology you mean.

Also, I can't see what the second sentence is doing in this paragraph—how it relates to the benefits of studying history.

I would replace "brutal" with "primitive/spartan".
