Dear all,

The following sentence is from a passage I'm reading. It is about a lighthouse.

The lamp’s light, powerful as it was, seemed not much stronger than a match’s, and almost as short-lived.

Is it okay to say "powerful as it was" means "though it was powerful"?

Thank you!

Dear all,

fivejedjon, thanks for your reply.

Regarding the use of "adjective + as + subject + linking verb", are the following sentences okay?

1. Young as she was, she was the most experienced nurse at the hospital.

2. Exhausted as she was, she didn't give up the marathon race.

Thank you!
