Yes, but woudn't there be a difference in meaning between a Dragunov sniper rifle and the Dragunov sniper rifle in my sentence?

You could use the definite article if you'd already mentioned it.

I saw a Dragunov rifle for sale in a local fishing shop. I could tell that the Dragunov rifle was in good condition and was on sale for a very low price. I think it's dangerous for such weapons to be sold so openly.

I saw a Dragonoff rifle for sale in a fishing shop. That upset me because I don't think they should be available to the general public. (Not Dragonoff rifles or any other kind.)

That's probably the way I would say it.
