Which of the above direct speech sentence is correct?

A. The teacher asked me how many books I had read.
B. The teacher asked how many books I had read.


Which of the above reported speech sentence is correct?

A is the correct form of sentences 1 and 3.
Sentences 2 and 4 don't say she was speaking to you so neither A nor B works. The teacher could have been speaking to anyone.
B could be used whether the teacher was speaking to you or to someone else, as long as they were asking the listener how many books you had read.
