Dear teachers,

when writing a diary entry people often start or end with something like "Today/This was the weirdest/happiest/best... day in my life / ever."
But aren't "in my life" and "ever" something like periods of time that haven't come to an end so far? Meaning, wouldn't it be more correct to use "Today has been the ...."?

Or are both fine, the simple past and the present perfect?

Thanks in advance

Maybe technically you're right, but in casual informal speech, "was" is normal and common.

Dear teachers, Unnecessary. Just go straight in with your post. You're not writing us a formal letter.

When writing a diary entry, people often start or end with something like "Today/This was the weirdest/happiest/best ... day in my life/ever."
But However, aren't "in my life" and "ever" something like periods of time that haven't come to an end so far yet? Meaning, Wouldn't it be more correct better to use "Today has been the ..." no question mark here or are both fine OK/correct - the simple past and the present perfect?

Thanks in advance. There is no need to thank us in advance. Thank us after we help you, by adding the "Thanks" icon to any response you find useful.
Please note my corrections and comments above.

As a learner, don't try to start sentences with "but" or "or".
An ellipsis is three dots with a space at each end.
Don't put a space either side of a slash mark.
Don't use "more correct". Something is either correct or it's not. It's not gradable.
