Hello, dear teachers, can you help me with one question? I am a student from St. Petersburg, in an English class we came across this sentence: "I don't suppose you happened to notice whether there was a cash machine there?". The question is: why is "there" used twice in this sentence?

I have changed the title of your thread so that it tells us what the thread is about, @Saveliy.

Say:

I'm a student from St Petersburg. In an English class we came across this sentence: I don't suppose you happened to notice if there was a cash machine there.

I don't know which "there" you think should be removed. Which should it be?

Since this question has already been dealt with, in the link 5jj gave in post #2, I'm locking this thread.
