Hello.

What are some words I can use to describe the sound of passenger air planes?

Is "roar" a good one? What are some others?

I also need to describe the situation when a plane approaches and at first it appears to be small.

Sorry, but I also need a word to fill in the blank.

We could hear the roar of a passenger plane approaching from distant. The plane was a tiny speck in the sky but got bigger and bigger as it flew towards us. The sound of its engine ...through the sky was now almost deafening.

That's a start. Let's see what other ideas folks here have.
