I just got replies of my first question on this board!
That was really quick, so I got moved....thank you guys!! :up:

I've got one more question.

Radar is a method of locating invisible objects, used first in World War II for the detection of the approach of enemy aircraft and submarines, and later put to peacetimes uses.

I think the subjective of the two verbs, used and put, is 'radar'. Am I right?

If I write this sentence again, is it right?

Radar is a method of location invisible objects, which was used first in World War II for the detection of the approach of enemy aircraft and submarines, and later radar was put to peacetime uses.
Is it right? I am understanding in the way above........hope it's right.....

Thanks for your time and help from the bottom of my heart.

  • Radar is a method of locating invisible objects, [and was] used first in World War II for the detection of the approach of enemy aircraft and submarines, and later [Radar was] put to peacetimes uses.

The last two ('was used' and 'was put') are in passive voice, making 'used' and 'put' past participles, not really verbs.

The phrase 'peacetimes uses' sounds awkward to me. It's a new one for me. I want to edit it to 'put to use in times of peace.'

Thank you so much!!!!!!! ^^:up::up:

I don't find 'peacetimes uses' as awkard as you do, lauralie2. I have come across it several times, though I cannot give you an authentic quote at the moment. How about 'peacetime use'? Does that sound any better to you?

That's OK. It's the plural noun 'peacetimes' functioning as an adjective that sounds rather awkward to me.
