The Teeline Bible

An absolute must for any journalist who needs to learn shorthand. I am teaching myself with this book and it is easy to follow, comprehensive and clearly laid out.

Teeline Shorthand

This book has become very useful for me throughout my course. I use it almost everyday, and the audio CD is very helpful.

Brilliant

If I could only have one book this would be it. This is a great book and the CD which comes with it is invaluable. I have spent many hours listening to it on my iPod and scribbling on a notepad whilst on the train/on lunchbreaks etc.

The CD only reads up to 60wpm which is the only downside about this package. If you're looking to get to 100wpm (or more) try scribing the news, radio programmes or children's audio books as they are often read at a slower pace.

Yes, you will get to know and loate Dawn's accent and some of the passages are a bit obscure(problems with nail glue is one of my personal funny favourites!)

This gives a very comprehensive look at teeline. I would highly recommend it.

If only this had been published earlier

This book wasn't out when I learnt shorthand so I did the standard Teeline course instead. The standard course is good but aimed at secretaries. This, however, is far better for journalists (and has plenty of additional short forms that would help PAs, too). Journalists and other writers will find it worth every penny.

Six months' hard labour
~ Written on Jul 28, 2007. 9 out of 12 users found this review helpful.

Face it - learning Teeline is a complete pig. There is no getting round it.

This course is better than most, because it avoids the pompous secretarial tone of the older tomes. However, Dawn's nasal sing-song voice annoyed the hell out of me, and some of the sentences ('who is responsible for filling the bathroom with bubbles?') could only have been generated by a very strange mind.

My six month relationship with Teeline for Journalists is over (thank God), but that voice will haunt my dreams forever.
