TEACHERS AND PARENTS: GET ENLIGHTENED!

I believe this to be an incredibly sensible and effective method of teaching any child and adult to read. It makes so much sense. I am a parent of a year one child who is using a method which amounts to little more than word memorization and guesswork. Just look at the picture and say whatever you think might be the word. Well Phono-Graphix is one way to help your child read properly and I therefore rate this book extremely highly. Please also read "Why Children Can't Read", as the two complement each other.

Phono-grafix. A foolproof method for teaching your child to
~ Written on Feb 18, 2004. 17 out of 18 users found this review helpful.

This is an excellent book which is a thorough and insightful introduction to the Phono-graphix method. I am a qualified primary teacher I am using the book to teach a boy with mild dyslexia how to read and write. It is not an 'easy' solution but followed carefully it really does work.
Phono-graphix is a new methodology which is becoming wide spread in London schools and yields real results for dyslexic children. Teachers and primary assistants are being trained proffesionally in the system, but as ever, funding is a crucial issue and many dyslexic children will not get the specialist teaching they need.
I would recommend this book to teachers and to parents of children who have not made progress with their reading. However, I do not feel Phono-grafix is a 'fool proof' method. I would definately recommend speaking to a specialist ( teacher, special needs assesor) before beginning to teach this system, to make sure you have all the sounds correct, and that you fully undertand the methodology.
Once thats checked the book does really offer an excellent teaching framework, which can change a childs life.
