To The Teacher: This TAAS Practice Tests booklet will help you prepare your students for the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills in Reading Comprehension and Written Communication. This booklet contains three major sections: pretests, worksheets and writing prompts, and posttests How to Use This Booklet: Begin by administering the Reading Comprehension Pretest and the Written Communication Pretest. Select a Writing Prompt to complete the Written Communication Pretest. Score the tests, and determine which skills need reinforcement. Refer to the correlation chart on pages viii-x for pages in HBJ Language on which particular skills are taught. Use those lessons for reteaching. To give students additional practice on skills, choose appropriate worksheets from this booklet. Each worksheet is accompanied by item analyses that provide thinking models to sharpen students' test-taking skills. To promote fluency and familarity with each type of writing included in the TAAS, give students several opportunities to respond to the Writing Prompts included in the booklet. For your final assessment, and to give students additional practice in test-taking, administer the Reading Comprehension Posttest and the Written Communication Posttest. Again, select a Writing Prompt to complete the Written Communication Posttest.
