EDITORIAL REVIEW

This is an ideal dictionary for students taking Spanish in combination with a business qualification at college or for anyone doing business in the Spanish-speaking world. It provides an exhaustive range of business vocabulary--over 50,000 words and phrases--across many core areas, far outstripping the competition in its coverage of e-commerce and Internet-related terms. Detailed treatment of all vocabulary items is provided, along with thousands of example phrases illustrating important constructions. The extensive supplementary material offers sample business correspondence, including Curriculum Vitaes; faxes, emails, and invoices; lists of countries, nationalities, languages, and currencies; and guidance on using the telephone.

Best Spanish-English Business Dictionary as of 2009
~ Written on Jun 27, 2009. out of 1 users found this review helpful.

This is the best Spanish-English business dictionary as of 2009. When comparing it to other dictionaries available on the market, this is the most accurate one. I have been engaged in business translations for the last 27 years, and this is one of the top Spanish-English business dictionaries.

It is fairly complete, and when you find the entry, one meaning is well discriminated from another meaning. For example, let's take the treatment of "domicilio."

"domicilio: address, domicile (formal); (cambio de domicilio) change of address; (servicio a domicio) home delivery; (sin domicilio fijo) no fixed abode; (trabajador a domicilio) homeworker; (domicilio bancario) bank address; (domicilio legal) legal residence; (domicilio particular) private address; (domicilio postal) mailing address; (domicilio social) registered address, registered office; (domicilio social fijo) fixed place of business"

This dictionary is just as strong in the portion going from English into Spanish.

When dealing with a business subject this is the first source for me. If I cannot find it here, then I go to Urrutia's Diccionario de términos de negocios and Tom West's Spanish-English Dictionary of Law and Business. If I cannot find the term in any of these three business dictionaries, I go to Steven Kaplan's English Spanish Business Dictionary, but usually those words are not in that dictionary either. The reason I use this latter dictionary after consulting the others is because I find it to be less accurate than the other three dictionaries as far as usage is concerned.

I am looking forward to an updated version of the Oxford Business Spanish Dictionary; however, in the meantime, this version is the best business dictionary currently available.

A fine dictionary, but a bit dated.

As a business translator I have been using this dictionary and Wiley's English-Spanish, Spanish-English Business Dictionary for several years now, and together they would get the job done for me. As each year went by however, there would be more and more terms that I could not find in either dictionary.

Happily, a few months ago Webster's New World English-Spanish/Spanish-English Business Dictionary was published, and now I have access to over 80,000 entries and over 100,000 translations! Its 2006 publication date insures that it is completely current.

Now I only use Webster's New World English-Spanish/Spanish-English Business Dictionary. And I use it every day. All the time. So, my recommendation is to buy Webster's New World English-Spanish/Spanish-English Business Dictionary, and perhaps in a few years, also buy the new edition of The Oxford Spanish Business Dictionary whenever it is published.

Great dictionary- no need to invent terms!

This dictionary is complete with contemporary business terms in Spanish with their English equivalent. This dictionary is a handy reference for those who need to know and understand business terms in Spanish as well as keep pace with neologisms that come into the language especially from the technology sector. The vocabulary is very contemporary and includes abbreviations as well that are included in business documents and letters. The middle of dictionary includes a business correspondence section with sample business letters, resumes, email vocabulary and other handy business correspondence references. This dictionary would be most beneficial to those who use Spanish in a professional capacity, advanced learners of Spanish and those who simply want to speak correctly using proper business terms at all times in Spanish. This is a worthwhile investment.
