EDITORIAL REVIEW

Two women, one war.

Helen, at age twelve, is not prepared to deal with her famous beauty: to have the face that will launch a thousand ships, kill fifty thousand men, and cause the fall of the world's greatest city. But when she is kidnapped by Theseus of Athens, she begins her journey into womanhood and finds passion strong enough to start the Trojan War.

Cassandra has the gift, or curse, to predict the future. When she forsees the ruin of her family and city that Helen's arrival in Troy will cause, she is outraged. Yet she cannot help being drawn to Helen.

As the war rages around them, Helen, the woman who started the conflict, and Cassandra, the one who foresaw it, develop a deep friendship. And through their eyes we see the Trojan War in a fascinating new way.

USER REVIEWS

Pretty entertaining.

This book is a light and easy to read introduction to The Iliad.

I loved the Iliad and I enjoyed this little novel as well. I read it some time ago, but for some reason there are various scenes in it that stuck with me. I was thirteen when I read it, and I'm nineteen now, and yet I can still describe full scenes from this book with vivid detail.

I would recommend this book to a young person, but I'd also recommend it to an adult who enjoyed the Iliad and had a long plane flight or something.

To sum: fun, light, entertaining, and will refresh your memory of The Iliad and Greek mythology for those of you who are ever working to improve your Jeopardy skills.

An Absorbing Teen Novel

I found this novel very absorbing and interesting. It took me one evening to read the book and I definitely plan to recommend it to my advanced female students (I teach ESOL). The book helps clarify the greek mythologies and tells it from the point of view of the women involved - Helen of Troy and Cassandra of Troy. The story is well developed and I enjoyed reading the book myself. I highly recommend the book to teenage girls and those beyond the teenage years!

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE KIDNAPPED BY A FAMOUS HERO AND TURNED INTO A PROUD PRINCESS? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE PROCLAIMED THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD AND YOU WERE ONLY TWELVE YEARS OLD? THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO HELEN OF SPARTA, THE OWNER OF THE "FACE THAT LAUNCHED A THOUSAND SHIPS."

HELEN GROWS FROM A TOMBOY-LIKE CHILD INTO A WOMAN OVER WHOM THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LOSE THEIR LIVES. HELEN IS QUITE SKILLED AT IGNORING HER OWN GUILT IN THE WAR UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE TO EXPERIENCE ANY RELEASE. HELEN FLIES THROUGH LIFE SHELTERED AND PAMPERED. SHE HAS NO GUILT IN LEAVING HER CHILD, CHEATING ON HER HUSBAND, AND DRAWING THE RAGE AND ANGER OF THE INNOCENT VICTIMS OF THE WAR HER DECEIT HAS CREATED.
CASSANDRA, ON THE OTHER HAND, DISPROVES HER SHAMEFUL NAME AND IS ANYTHING BUT AN INDICATION OF DOOM. HER VISIONS ARE ONES OF ILLNESS AND DEATH, BUT SHE CLEARLY FEELS THEM DEEP WITHIN HER SELF, DYING A LITTLE WITH EACH VISION COMING TO REALITY. CASSANDRA KNOWS THAT HELEN'S PRESENCE IN TROY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RUIN OF HER FAMILY AND HER FAMILY'S KINGDOM. DESPITE ALL THAT, SHE BEFRIENDED HELEN. NEVER TRULY TRUSTING HER, CASSANDRA STILL LOVED HELEN AS A SISTER.

THE SETTING OF THIS STORY BEGINS IN THE ROYAL PALACE OF SPARTA. THE SETTING OF THE STORY LATER MOVED ONTO THE GREAT THESUS'S PALACE WHERE HE TEACHES HELEN TO BE A PROPER PRINCESS AND LADY. THEN THE STORY MOVES BACK TO THE PALACE OF SPARTA, THEN TO HELEN'S HUSBAND'S PALACE, THEN TO THE PALACE OF PARIS AND HIS ROYAL FAMILY. AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE ARE MANY SETTINGS IN THIS STORY.

All in all, i think that this story is very good and that everyone should read it. I would give this book TEN stars it was so good. But I can't. oh well... TOODLES! [...]

a very good read

"Inside the walls of troy" is great book that I really enjoyed. Anyone who is interested in ancient Greece/Troy will also enjoy this book, though it will most likely appeal more to girls. it is about how the Trojan war and how it began and ended. For a refreshing change, however, "Inside the Walls of Troy" is told from the point of view of First Helen and then Cassandra. Helen is the queen of Sparta and the most beautiful woman in the world, but Aphrodite is playing tricks on her. Cassandra is a princess of Troy who has visions of the future. This is the WOMEN'S story of what happened inside the walls of Toy.

"Inside the Walls of Troy"
I personally think that "Inside the Walls of Troy" is a great book. It is generally meant to be read by girls. If you are interested in what was happening around the Greek era this is a great book for you. If you are also interested in what women have done to contribute in our history this is also a good book for you.
"Inside the Walls of Troy" gives two women perspectives. The first half of the book is in the perspective of Helen Queen of Sparta. The second half of the book is in Princess Cassandra of Troy's perspective. This book is all about what was happening inside the walls of Troy during the Trojan War. This is a great book for people who are just starting off learning about Greek history, but it's also a great book if you know everything there is to know about Greek history.
In the beginning of the book Helen deceives her husband and sails off with the stunning Prince Paris. At first Cassandra, Paris's sister has a lot of hatred toward Helen. Later on she can't help but start to like the beautiful and friendly young woman. This book is all about the growing friendship of two women inside the walls of Troy.
Overall I think "Inside the Walls of Troy" is a great book. After all I've read it twice. I think the book is definitely worth reading. If you're like me you'll love it.
