EDITORIAL REVIEW

Fourth graders throughout New York State are now required to take a three-session English Language Arts exam, and this user-friendly manual is designed to give them a head start toward achieving a good grade. An early chapter offers coaching in how to read and answer multiple-choice questions, which make up the exam’s first session. Following chapters provide practice and review in reading comprehension, listening and remembering information, creative writing, and writing both short and extended responses to reading selections. The manual’s final chapter presents two full-length practice exams with answers and explanations. This brand new test prep title is printed in two colors and features many illustrations.

You can find something better

I bought this exercise book for my son. I let him do the test by himself and then we go over it together. He keeps complaining all the answers are next to the questions. (It's just right in front of his face). It's loss challenge for him. I have to buy him another book. We prefer the answer print at the back of the book.

effective test prep

This book is a must for the New York state test. It covers all the test content from listening, reading, to writing. In each section, the book has concise reviews highlighting the most tested topics. It provides solid test preparing strategies and tips in each area with guided practices. At the end, it gives two complete sample tests that are very similar to the real ones. It's very effective for my son.

Note that this book assumes you know the basics and pushes you to achieve higher scores. So, use this book two weeks before you take the exam. For day to day practice, we find the Beestar web site (www.beestar.org) has similar tests. They build the broader fundamentals. This book will sharpen the saw for you.
