EDITORIAL REVIEW

This quick-reference dictionary for language students and travelers to Italy presents more than 4,000 informal, commonly-used words and phrases in Italian with English translations and equivalent phrases. International travelers quickly discover that their textbook knowledge of Italian will take them only so far in understanding and communicating with others. This new edition, updated with many of the most contemporary expressions, will help all students and travelers who have an intermediate-level knowledge of Italian but need to familiarize themselves with informal speech. Words and phrases are presented with grammatical information, their English meanings, and a sentence or extended phrase in Italian to illustrate usage, followed by the English translation. The Dictionary of Italian Slang and Colloquial Expressions is one title in Barron’s series of slang dictionaries in several different languages. Because of the nature of slang, these books contain expressions that some readers might find offensive.

Who wrote this book probably doesn't know how in Italy people speak. by the way I'm Italian and I live in California from 2006 so ... I know my language.
Some example: ABRAMUCCIO??? who uses this word in Italy?? maybe in her family. -- ACCANNARE??? Where in hell she got this .. the right expression is: CANNARE .. ACCHIAPPANZA????? what, who says this? an expedition for picking up girls??? what the hell is she writing? but let's go on ... ACCHITTARSI???? ACCHITTATO???? ACETO?????? Please ... don't use these words. we don't use them in Italy. There are some words in the book that we actually use but are less then 300. And if you are gonna use some of those 300, be careful ... you can receive a fist in your face

Use with caution!

This compilation is fun to read, but as someone who is learning Italian and visits Italy frequently, I have to say that as a resource for speaking, it has its limitations. Before using any of these sayings, it is most important to stop and consider whom you are speaking with, b/c most the phrases in this dictionary are either raunchy or insulting, more slang than colloquialisms. I find it more helpful when trying to figure out what Italians are saying to each other when it's clear that they are being rude.

Most of the reviews I see here are incredibly bizzare!! People critiquing the book as if it were a serious language dictionary, complaining it's only english to italian etc.! The book is meant to entertain with all kinds of slang terms, most a little dirty or crazy. Very, very entertaining it is!. Check it out - especially if you already know some italian and can read the phrases aloud to your friends with gusto! It's hialrious

Lots of words, but no English to Italian Section

This book is great if you can hear Italian natives speak, and actually understand what they have said, otherwise it's useless with no English to Italian section. Sure you can pick a random word and find out what it means in English but who wants to do that?

This book is hilarious!!!!!!!
