What's the big deal?

Looks like something that should be given out when you go into shop. Basic facts, but nothing about how to add style. So disappointing, especially after the great reviews.

Great gift for my BF

Terrific book - lots of useful info & really lush (tons of illustrations, nice feel). My BF said he felt much more confident going to buy a suit for his new job. Can't say better than that!

Very highly recommended as a basic foundation examining men's style trends

Nordstrom Guide to Men's Style is a top pick for any fashion or arts collection, whether it be at the college level or for a general-interest library. It packs in details ranging from button counts to stitches and beyond, examining the progression of men's styles and staples in both classic and alternative looks. Very highly recommended as a basic foundation examining men's style trends.

Great book for the man who has STYLE
~ Written on Sep 1, 2009. 1 out of 1 users found this review helpful.

This was definitely the book for me. I love shoes, clothing and dressing to impress. There's fashion, and then there's STYLE. I believe that dressing with STYLE is the way to dress to impress. STYLE is not about wearing the latest fashions; it's more about knowing how to coordinate colors and patterns, proper fit, and what and how to make clothes look good on Y-O-U. This book is for the man who has STYLE. I spend lots of time on the internet, in men's stores, and in men's departments of major department stores looking at clothing and shoes, and reading about STYLE and fashion. This book is the most comprehensive collection of usable information on men's STYLE that I have found. I trust it because it comes from Nordstrom, the quintessential customer service company (read the "Nordstrom Way: The Inside Story of America's #1 Customer Service Company"). Believe me, I have no affiliation with Nordstrom other than being a big fan since a friend of mine turned me on to them in the early 90's. I've been hooked every since then. This book is a reasonable reflection of Nordstrom.
However, it's not all good. Since Nordstrom's roots are in shoes (and they sale lots of really fine shoes), I was really shocked and disappointed that they didn't go into more detail about shoes (colors, coordination, types, quality, etc.) Overall, this is still a really good book.

Concise Guide for the Beginner
~ Written on Aug 29, 2009. 1 out of 1 users found this review helpful.

This book is good for a beginner. You figure out your style according to four models and can see advice for suits, ties, shirts, socks, and shoes. Advice for style spans from formal to semi-formal. I picked this book up while waiting for a friend at Nordstroms and had to have my own, Amazon-priced copy for help buying nice clothing and dressing like a pro. The appendix also shows how to tie ties, bow ties, and lays out accessories.
