Priviledged in the 80's
~ Written on Mar 31, 2009. out of users found this review helpful.

Did you grow up priviledged in the 80's? If so, chances are this book will bring back memories. Yes, it's spoofy, but it's so much fun and spot on in many cases. Very fun to pick up and read on a slow Saturday afternoon and full of inspiration in terms of what preppy trends to resurrect in your life if you aren't still 100% prepster these days.
Buy it if you can!

Preppy Handbook

I was in high school when this book originally came out, it was my bible! I have several copies and continue to give it as gifts to friends and family. I think the book has a "cult" like following. We know that fashion always repeats itself so this book is very in vogue right now. My teenage neices just love this book and are the envy of their friends. If you are lucky enough to have a copy - you better keep it under lock and key!

I remember when this book came out. Everyone had a copy of it. My own dog-eared copy is still part of my home library.

The Official Preppy Primer

Spot on and chocked full of under the radar wit, TOPH was state of the art evocation and a rite of passage for many. It never even occurred to me until after reading this that I was one of THEM, having grown up in a classic 8 on the upper East side, living next door to the Whitneys and Duponts in Oyster Bay, wearing my Grandfathers Patek Phillipe watch, having my Grandmother drink me under the table, effortlessly, while wearing her 40 yr old Chanel suit and H. Stern pearls that there was any other way of life but this. Choate and Brown weren't schools ,they were places you drank during the school year, the tennis team meant you could drink more bloody mary's than most and spending a semester abroad for a boy in his junior year was a BIG no-no,(spent it on the phone at my fathers investment firm making dates for drinks and weekend trips).Thank You Lisa Birnbach for the validation, and the inclusion, for the knowledge and the social grace to understand that it was perfectly acceptable to miss my sisters wedding ceremony, but absolutely not the reception.
