EDITORIAL REVIEW

Incorporated into the writing exercises in Daily Handwriting Practice, Traditional Cursive, are many other basic areas of learning important to developing minds. For example, on the topic, "What is work," students learn about simple tools and the physics applied in using them.

Students write letters, words, and sentences about a variety of content area topics appropriate for the classroom. Monday through Thursday, the weekly subjects for writing exercises range from famous inventors to famous quotations, amazing hunters to the water cycle. On Friday, a full-page exercise draws the topic to a close by reviewing what was learned earlier that week.

This book is a useful and effective teaching tool because:

Each letter is introduced and practiced before students are asked to use it.

Curriculum topics addressed include: the alphabet, unusual animals, math, capital letter, owls as hunters, rhyming words, months of the year, whales, rivers of the world, days of the week, the water cycle, world alphabets, geography facts, synonyms, nonsense rhymes, the seven continents, color words, alliteration insects, weather,beavers,U.S. presidents, simple machines, famous quotations ,unusual plants Native American tribe, math ,rhyming words, sports around the world,Kenya, prefixes and suffixes, candy around the world, games around the world

Skills reinforced that help keep handwriting legible include: correct letter formation, letter placement, spacing between letters, and spacing between words.

When students complete this book, they will take away a self-made learning tool, because the final four weeks of practice assemble into an Alphabet Book about insects.

Engaging line art illustrations highlight various exercises. All 112 pages are reproducible for classroom use and perforated for easy removal. $14.95 each.

A GREAT CURSIVE REFRESHER
~ Written on Dec 12, 2009. out of users found this review helpful.

I bought Daily Handwriting Practice: Contemporary Cursive for my 19 year old granddaughter. I noticed she printed everything, including her signature. She had been printing for so long she didn't remember how to do cursive! This workbook is more advanced than some of the other workbooks, that seem more for younger grades. It didn't take long before my granddaughter learned how to do cursive again.

Good Product

This is for the child who already has a bit of cursive under the belt. I'm using it with my homeschooler and she is making progress. However, the parent still needs to go over the work and draw the child's attention to repeated mistakes. Good penmanship takes practice, practice, practice and this book is a good aid.

We really like this handwriting book! Its very concise, with each day's practice laid out in an easy-to use format for both teacher and student. The poems and writing exercises are interesting and fun!

Is it Contemporary or Traditional?

I'm probably the only one who cares about this, but the image for this product is showing Traditional Cursive, but the title of the product is Contemporary Cursive. When I click to search inside, it does show Contemporary Cursive, so I'm hoping that's what I get when I order this product. Contemporary Cursive begins all letters on the baseline, which is much easier for a child to learn. But it's hard to find....Anyhow, just thought I'd point out the discrepancy between the title and the graphic for anyone who wants to be sure what they are getting. I'll try and update this when I get the product...

Just what we were looking for.

We were happy to have discovered this series. My 2 boys had already learned the formation of the letters, but still needed practice in writing. This series of books fit the bill perfectly! The practice is divided into daily amounts and the children are learning other information through the writing. Instead of simply copying letters or words focused on one letter, they are putting the whole alphabet into practice while writing and therefore learning about the topic of the day. They have found this much more interesting and are actually enjoying their handwriting time now.
