EDITORIAL REVIEW

Latin translation of the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in which Harry Potter, a normal eleven-year-old boy, discovers that he is a wizard. Long ago, Harry's parents were killed in a battle with the evil Lord Voldemort. When we first meet Harry, he is living miserably with his repulsive and non-magical (or Muggle) Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon Dursley, and their even more revolting son, Dudley. Following a bizarre but hilarious chain of events, Harry finds himself at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with an outrageous cast of characters, including super-smart Hermione Granger, vile Draco Malfoy, sinister Professor Snape, and the wise Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Adventures galore ensue.

USER REVIEWS

Lot's of fun
~ Written on Nov 21, 2009. out of users found this review helpful.

It was lots of fun reading this book in Latin. The translation is great and reading it I felt that the book was written in Latin. I wish the rest of the Harry Potter series could be translated as well. Similarly exciting and entertaining are Insula Thesauraria (Latin Edition) and Nicolai Klimii Iter Subterraneum (Latin Edition) but especially Fabulae Divales: Fairy Tales in Latin (Latin Edition) is great if you like magic and fairy tales.

Never meant to order that book or any book in LATIN.

I have no idea how I got that book, so I'm guessing I must have hit the incorrect button.

Praised be the one who translated this book.
The editing is very professional, and I am hoping they
translate the rest of the books also.

What can I say about this book? If you liked Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and you know Latin, you will definitely enjoy this book.

The translation itself is flawless. If youre just learning to read Latin then this is a good beginner book.

Sustaining an interest in the Classics
~ Written on Dec 5, 2008. out of users found this review helpful.

Considering the decline in interest in the classics, probably attributable to Latin being no longer essential to the study of law or being too Eurocentric, it's wonderful to see this HP translation. It truly resulted in my renewed interest in the language after I began hating it subsequent to my experience with a Classics teacher slamming me across the face with a copy of Tacitus' Annals at the age of sixteen, for translating too slowly. If only there was such a HP book way back then as a school text.

A book such as this can only do great service to a great but waning language as far as keeping it alive.
