This book is a breezy, chatty, non-technical, fun-to-read explanation of low carbohydrate dieting why it works, the surprising health benefits, and most importantly, how to approach low carb dieting.

The book details three very different main approaches to controlling carbohydrates (including the Basic Low Carb Diet, similar to Atkins or Protien Power, and the Mini-Binge Diet, popularized as the Carbohydrate Addict?s Diet), plus several variations, finally summing up the basic principles which tie them all together.

I read this book from front to back. It truly is a great read. Dana inserts her wonderful sense of humor alongside the invaluable and very educational information she provides in this book. She explains things in such a manner that many things I only vaguely understood before are now perfectly clear, or at least much clearer. The information found in this book has helped me to make sense of all I struggle with in my effort to lose weight and keep it off and to avoid the very real possibility of diabetes, which runs in my family. With the many options for low-carb dieting she provides in one book, I'm finding a new source of energy. I really appreciate the fact that she gave the description, facts, comparisons and advice for each option. I highly recommend this book. I'm spreading the word about it to all my friends who, like me, are struggling to get the pounds off -- again -- and to keep it off.

This is one of the best comprehensive looks at low carb dieting that I have found. The discussions of the different approaches and sorting out the how and why of the various diets is enlightening. It is really helpful in developing an individual diet plan that is right for you and, most importantly, sustainable for long term weight loss. I am experiancing success and have a better idea of why this diet works for me. The information is presented in a clear and easy to understand manner that conveys confidence that her success can also be yours.

If your thinking about going low-carb, this is a book you must read before choosing a low-carbohydrate plan. Dana gives you the pros and cons on several of the top low-carb plans, and she does it in an easy to read format followed up with medical research documentation. Awesome book that is well worth the money.

I have been "low carbing" for 6 months and lost 36 pounds. I still have lots to loose, but this book provides good inspiration, information, and hints. I had to switch from a vegetarian diet (to loose weight, trying Neal Barnard's vegan approach, see my 2007 review) where I did not loose weight, and still had too high A1C and glucose levels!! I still use soy products, and eat lots of low carb veggies. But I have eggs, chicken, fish now, but the results say it all, even with 100 net carbs per day.

I liked this so much that I gave a copy to my sister for her birthday.....
