Hello! If the title of an essay "What is the importance of something" e.g. reading books, learning, education etc. - what kind of essay is it? Discursive, opinion or something else? Should I give the opposite point of view?

If you are asked to assess the importance of something, it is probably a good idea to consider suggestions that the something might not be important.
Of course, it does depend on what you are being asked to write about. If you are being asked about the imprtance of water, you will probably consider only how very important it is. There would seem to be little point in discusssing the idea of its lack of importance.
On the other hand, if you are considering the importance of western films in American culture, it would be advisable not to start with the idea that everbody considers that they are important.
